- Do different social networking sites offer other benefits and drawbacks?
When comparing social networking sites there are absolutely differing benefits and drawbacks between the ones being used. The biggest difference I believe lies within the context of the business and what your career is. If you are looking for a job opportunity or are looking for employees, something like Linkedin would be an incredible platform because it is much more formal than typical social media apps. That being said if you are an entrepreneur and an online coach, something like Instagram would be an excellent way to attract clients and bring in money. Both are two different apps with both having a plus to each of them. The downside to Linkedin is you are not likely to pull in clients as you would off instagram, and the downside to Instagram is that you are not likely to get a job from having a presence on there.
- What factors might influence whether Facebook has negative influences, like links with depression, versus positive results, such as boosts in self-esteem?
The factors that might influence whether Facebook has negative influences or positive results could include like and comment counts, what is being displayed on someones for you page (FYP), and how the individual is mentally wired themselves. Like and comment counts will either boost your ego if they are high or depress you if they are low. If you have models and money being shown on your FYP constantly you may believe your life isn't as good as it is, or vice versa if you are only shown people in bad conditions. Lastly, all of this depends on how the person reacts to social media themselves. Is this someone who overthinks? Or is this someone who is calm? Someone who is shown models and money on their FYP may actually be motivated rather than put down. Individual perspective is a huge factor here, it's not just the app itself.
