Social Semiotics

Social semiotics focuses on the visual, verbal, and aural social-meaning practices. It does this by investigating the social aspects of meaning and how human processes of signification and interpretation shape societies and individuals. Social semiotics was largely founded and discovered by Michael Halliday, and the method is important because it helps us figure out how certain signs can influence us as a people into acting or feeling a certain way.
