Knapp's Relationship Model

An interpersonal relationship I have recently developed is with a guy at the gym. We knew each other in high school but we didn't talk much. Turns out he goes to the same gym I go to, is pretty equal in strength to me, and doesn't like to talk during our lifts, which ends up making the perfect training partner. Currently the two of us in this friendship are in the integrating stage as we are starting to lift together pretty regularly and he is beginning to be regarded as my training partner. At this point I would consider him a friend, but not anyone close to me. So far the effects of online communication haven't negatively effected our interpersonal relationship. Texting allows us to line up the times we lift together, which is a positive, but other than that neither of us are online much to begin with. If the two of us were online to an even greater degree and we were messaging more often I think the relationship would do worse. I believe this aspect because in order to take your training serious you need to have a more formal relationship with the training partner.
